Watch out - the operating instructions can be a little different ! (2005 Mk 2.5 1.8sport & an iPod Mini)

Fitting was relatively easy - used the DIN keys to remove the stereo unit and plugged the main cable into the CD Changer port. I have the excess cable and the black box sitting in the empty space directly below the CD LCD display behind the blanking plate where you'd fit a minidisc player - if indeed you ever would!
I just ran the iPod connecting cable into the glove box.

Now this may be unique to this specific set-up of stereo & iPod mini, but the display on the stereo does not read EX1:66 or EX8:88
It simply displays CDCH (for CD Changer mode) when pressing the CD button, and then will display a Disc number and a Track number. (no EX coding will be visible)
IE, the head unit simply thinks you've installed a CD changer and is thus displaying what disc it thinks is currently operable

To have full functionality of the iPod interface, you MUST ensure the DISC selection is set to disc 1. (Equivalent of EX1 I guess)

If you do not set the disc to 1, but chose any other number, then the ipod interface will be in playlist mode and inoperable (big tick with OK to disconnect)
It took me a few frustrating attempts to work this out.

So the instructions on the main page of www.mx5parts.co.uk are pretty good; you just have to consider that letters EX may not be displayed, but essentially the logic is the same EX1 or Disc 1 give you iPod functionality. Any other EX or Disc number does not.

But once installed, and you're on the correct Disc selection, it's great.

Excellent sound quality, pretty easy installation, good instructions if you make sure and read through everyone's reviews and play around and troubleshoot it yourself.

I still have to question it's price.
I do commend MX5 parts for being very price competitive: but for what it actually is, generally speaking this linking device (at a manufacturers level) should be considerably cheaper.
That said, if you want a functional one, for pretty much the best price around, then get this one.

Thanks MX5 parts - yet another fantastic exmaple of fast delivery, great price, and a great site.... Rating: 4 of 5 Stars! [4 of 5 Stars!]
