THE GRILLE - PART 2
If you read my previous comments about this item you will gather that I was not all that impressed. I have now made some adjustments to the grille along with better fixings and the fit and look is much better.
Some notes on what I’ve done to improve the fit of the grille.
Firstly the grille is a pretty flimsy thing so it tends to warp when fitted. To improve this, try creating a small amount of curvature from top to bottom. (I used my knee and gradually created a nice even curvature along the grille). This stiffens the grille, which stops it distorting when fitted, and also makes it look a lot better.
Secondly, the fixings, as the cut out for the fixings is way to large for the bolt that is supposed to retain it and the beading around the grille prevents it from clamping flat to the bodywork. Try making some packer washers about 3mm thk, 25mm wide and 20mm high, to fit between the grille and the bodywork. Then make a washer 25mm wide x 20mm high to clamp the grille against the packers (instead of the beading). You will need a slightly longer M6 bolt to do this, but the end result is a grille that is a nice snug fit in the aperture, sits vertically and generally looks like something that is correctly fitted to the car rather that something you drove into and got wedged there!
If you’ve got one of these grilles and are not too happy with the fit give it a go.
