This is a Mazda original part and is superb. Nice finish on it which looks the mutts nuts in my interior.
To get the old plastic one off you have to heat the glue slightly either with a hairdryer or the way I did - by closing the car up on a summer day. Then you can twist it off with a bit of effort, there isn't any thread so direction doesn't matter.
The button does unscrew, just take it off then screw the new one on.
For the perfectionist, like me, there is a small spacer that fits into the recess at the base of the handle piece. This means that when the sleeve is in place it sits flush against the plasic trim at the end of the gaitor.
I cleaned up all the remaining glue and then stuck on the supplied trim adhesive foam strips. Ram the sleeve down onto them and the job is done. I'm not overly happy about that method of sticking it on to be honest but I couldn't see any other way of doing it and it doesn't seem to yank off in use.
