Nicely finished item, very chunky and solid and I couldn't wait to fit it onto my mx-5 Mk3. I went for the satin finish to match in with many other items I've added to enchance the interior of my car. If you think that this is going to be a quick and simple installation as I did then think again ! What I thought would take me an hour at most to fit ended up taking most of my Sunday that I had set aside for decorating !
Firstly, this item does not come with any instructions whatsoever and there are no review threads on here for you to refer to....until now
I began with removing the existing leather covering by slicing through the stitching line with a stanley knife. This covering is also glued in place but with a little bit of careful persuasion it can be peeled off. Once off, you will need to completely remove the rubber lining of the handbrake lever all the way down to the bare metal by using a very sharp stanley knife. This rubber goes from the tip of the handbrake where the little button is to the point where the handbrake gaitor starts.
Once all this has been completed, don't be fooled into thinking that the new sleeve will now slide on easily - it won't. I managed to get mine on by using a metal file to file down the metal handle to a point where I could slide the new sleeve on with enough resistance to hold it firmly in place. Important tip is to make sure you put a covering over the seats and surrounding areas to avoid damaging your pride and joy. Now that I have finally and successfully completed the fitting it looks and feels fantastic but is sadly let down by the cheap and nasty handbrake and gear gaitors which Mazda saw fit as standard. This will be my next job !
