Like others here I started experiencing misfiring on my Jasper Conran MK 2 1.8, when the engine was restarted after standing for a short time in cold/wet weather, which generally cleared after 5-10 minutes running. The local dealer eventually reproduced the problem and diagnosed a faulty ignition coil quoting just over £360 to do the job.
A quick search of the interweb brought me to this site and reading the reviews convinced me that I could tackle the job myself. The part was ordered and a 12mm socket and ratcheted ring spanner were borrowed from a mechanic friend. The part arrived the following morning and after a careful inspection, and a liberal dose of WD40, the three bolts were removed without too much drama. Electrical clips were a little fiddly and it was worth marking the left and right ones - I used a cable tie to distinguish them. In short, ten minutes later the new coil was in place and the engine was ticking over smoothly. Probably equates to the highest paid hourly rate I have ever achieved!
Since then I have had no re-occurrence of the misfiring. Many thanks to both MX5parts and the other reviewers for supplying both the part and the knowledge/confidence to complete the job.
