Great bit of kit! Received as a Christmas present and fitted in less than 2 hours to my mk2.5 2002 Montana.The MX5 filter is easy to remove and replace with the K&N. It is also held firmly and securely. The ram air scoop and ducting a little less so. The tolerance between the aircon pump is small but eventually was fine with the use of the zip ties and a small amount of squishing. The instructions do not really say much about the inspection door. I folded this back on itself and zip tied it inside the front bumper. Worked well and does not rattle at all.Noise is the first difference noted - great on acceleration - particularly around the 4k mark. The next is performance. It feels perkier all round. Slightly better throttle response but a good tweak on the 3-4.5k Rev range.Highly recommended for the price!

When installed this thing is really nice, the throttle response is a bit sharper and the nice growling sound alone makes this a worthwhile investment.The installation however...There's a big rubber thing that adapts the MAS to the actual filter, and after 30 minutes of cursing I gave up trying to fit it onto the MAS, it was just way, way too tight. Lubricants as well as brute force and ignorance just gave me bruises and scratches. Finally I carved off some 2-3mm all around the rubber thing to make it fit. Clearly those two parts were not made to fit each other.Also, the included rubber tube which is supposed to guide cool air towards the filter can not really be installed without some major hacking. The plastic bottom cover under the engine simply has no space where one could install the pipe. There is a little "door" that looks promising, but it's just way too tight when opened for the aluminium pipe to get through. One would really have to cut out an own hole in the cover or simply cut out the small "door". The tiny teeny images in the installation instructions did not show what K&N wanted me to do so I simply didn't install that extra piping.Also, the box and manual only ever mention the 1.6 engine, so perhaps I simply got the wrong kit? I had a similar kit for my 1994 MK1 and there I had no problems with installations. Also, I had the same kit for my 2000 MK2, and it was also trivial to install but did *not* have any extra piping included. Perhaps I got a 1.6 kit?So, result when installed, 5 stars. Installation: 1 star. Average 3 stars.

I have recently acquired my Mazda MX5 1.8 Special Edition Euphonic. Always wanted one when I was young but could never afford one. I'm 59 now and got it while I can still get in and out of it!!! Anyway came across MX5 Parts whilst searching the net and was impressed with the scale of parts and info available.Purchased the Airfiltercharger unit and I must say the service has been fantastic.The unit arrived at 3pm today. Read through the instructions vigorously and at 7.30pm I was all finished. Good instructions and good previous reviews made the fitting great fun. I moved the windscreen washer bottle to make things a little easier and I soaked the rubber unit in hot water before fixing it to the MAS Unit.Took the car for a spin and what can I say....amazing difference in sound, seemed quiker acceleration through the gears and seemed a lot quiker in 5th, and the sound around the 3/4000rev mark is brilliant.Great product and great service from MX5 Parts. I am now looking at replacement pedals and also a new back end exhaust system, and more in the future.Well dfone everyone at MX5 Parts.

Great service from mx5parts, delivered within two days. Took me and a friend less than an hour to fit it. Had trouble fitting the cold air pipe down through the engine bay, nothing a few cable ties didn't sort out. Now, what can I say about the performance......amazing! Just took my '05 1.8 icon for a spin and the noise is incredible, deep and growly at low revs and after 4000rpm it roars! Acceleration feels much better too. Well worth the money, as a relatively cheap performance modification, its hard to beat. Next perchase? NGK long reach plugs and some performance HT leads and I'll be well on my way!5 stars, no doubt!

I fittted the kit in only 15 minutes after a carefull reading of the K&N instructions. A little oil on the rubber ring and no swet to fit it to the air box. Pls . note that the slotted hole goes toward the airbox and do not forget to put the wide washer under the bolt (not indicated in the K&N instructions.The acceleration is now better than before on my 1.6l engine, the sound is wonderfull above 4000 RPMS and i bet I got some more HP too!It is a pity not to install this inexpensive kit on any MX5!!!! Believe me.Thanks to MX5parts to be always so quick with orders processing and delivery!

I had one of these for about 80k miles on my previous (NB) MX-5; thoroughly recommend it although I've had to replace the mounting bracket three times (hence, only four stars). (I believe the vibrating of the (quite large) filter work hardens the mild steel bracket until it becomes brittle and snaps at one of the mounting holes.)Each time, K&N promptly sent me another one free of charge, but the design is obviously flawed and has resulted in the cone itself becoming slightly damaged. Maybe a couple of oversized steel washers fitted either side would help strengthen the bracket?

Great kit and good value. Questioned the lack of 1.8 on the kit packaging with MX 5 parts and was assured it was the right part. Dead easy to fit but the kit lacked an extra tywrap to secure the intake hose close to the filter. The car now makes a lovely noise and has slightly quicker throttle response. Thanks for the quick delivery.

98 Mk2 1.8s .. Excellent delivery. Simple fit if you -1. Ignore Instructions if you've got a 1.8 which say this is for a 1.6 (no mention of 1.8) However , it is definately the correct part.2. Remove the washer bottle (2 nuts & pulls out)3. Heat Rubber ring in boiling water for 5 mins before fitting to MAS sensor (softens rubber / easier fit)4. Don't do what I did & remove the connector from the temp sensor at the start of the process rather than removing the full assembly from the original air box. (you'll be left scratching your head thinking this is the wrong part for the car - a quick call to James at mx5 parts confirmed it was definately the correct part. Realised I had to removed the temp sensor probe from the air box & fit it to the connector before fitting the temp sensor probe assembly into the hole at the rear of the K@N filter.) Sound is not too noticable under 3k , increases progressively up to 5k & between 5k & 7k is just what you want from this car. I've already got a single outlet , SS , MX5 parts rear box fitted & would recomment this combination as being sporty without being brash. My car seems to rev a bit more freely & is smoother on tickover. Would I buy again knowing what I know now ? YES ...Thanks

Forget the regular filter! Buy this one, you won't be disappointed! Although I had to remove the windscreen wacher bottle as well (which was fairly easy) the fitting instructions were clear. May be a little more hp but WHAT A SOUND!!! From 2.000 rpm it starts to roar like nothing else. Absolute great value for money

Delivery Information - MX5 Parts

We understand that its really important for you to receive your goods in a timely fashion and for a competitive price. To ensure that we can deliver this we have developed a strategic partnership with both the Royal Mail and our courier partner, Think Worldwide.

At the present time, we only offer one delivery option ‘our carrier’. We will dispatch your goods with the most suitable carrier, for main land UK deliveries this is normally Royal Mail 1st class for packages weighing under 1.5kg and Think Worldwide for those that are over.

Our delivery charges are based on the weight of the consignment and the destination address. For UK mainland deliveries they start at £1.97 for a package weighing under 300g and rise to a MAXIMUM of £9.95 for a package weighing 1.5kg or over (EXCEPT very large bulky items that have an additional shipping surcharge added). The exact delivery cost will be clearly displayed at checkout.

Delivery times are estimated at 1-3 working days by Royal Mail, and 1-2 working days by Think Worldwide for mainland UK addresses. If you order before 3pm, Monday to Friday, we will dispatch the same day. If you order after 3pm, we will try to dispatch the same day, but if we cant it will be the next working day. Items ordered after 3pm Friday or over a weekend will be dispatched Monday. Items dispatched on Friday are for delivery the following week. Items ordered over a Bank Holiday will be dispatched the next working day. MX5parts is constantly updated to keep pace with changes in our stock but demand is high and we occasionally run out of popular items. A signature is required for ALL orders delivered by Think Worldwide. Someone must be at your delivery address to sign for your parcel between 8am and 6pm on a working day. Please send it somewhere it can be reliably signed for, like your place of work, a neighbour, or perhaps your grans. We can (but we don’t like to) ask the courier to leave your parcel without a signature. If we do this, it will be YOUR responsibility if the parcel is lost or damaged. If you want it left, you need to give us your express instructions in the ‘additional information’ box at the end of the checkout process. It would be helpful if you could also indicate exactly where the package should be left.

If you need to change your delivery address, for any packages that have been dispatched with Think Worldwide, there will be an additional charge of £9.95 if the package has already been dispatched.

Please remember, even with Royal Mail deliveries, that any items which are too large to fit through your letter box will need someone to be available to receive the delivery. If the item cannot be delivered, you will be carded and given the option of either a re-delivery or you can collect your parcel from your local post office depot.

Orders sent to countries outside the UK will be sent VAT free, however please note that on all international shipments, the recipient is responsible for any local VAT, import duty and other clearance fees that may be charged.
