I like the look of these and they do seem to make a very marginal improvement to stopping power (I drove a 1.6 Mk1 recently and the brakes were appalling in comparison to mine). They'll also keep the pads from glazing.
A few problems: the zinc coating doesn't prevent rust for long, and mine are now looking like any other brake disc that's been on a car for two years. There is a swishing noise from the grooves which is very noticeable with the roof down - at first you think a wheel bearing has gone! Finally, I used to get a slight pulsing when braking between 70-65mph but at no other speed. It was there more or less from when the discs and pads were fitted, has never got worse and shouldn't be disc thickness variation (caused by runout) since I was careful to clean the mating surface of the hubs. An MX-5 specialist reckoned it was just a resonation between the grooved disc and something in the steering or suspension. I haven't noticed it recently, and it could even be the anti-skid surface they put down on slip roads these days.
