Very easy job. Replaced gear oil as well as it looked like milk with all of the water that must have got in. Used a mtr length of clear plastic tubing to suck out the oil, (not all the way up the tube, hence it being clear,) and blew it out into a container. Top it up with new gear oil to just below the opening, allowing for the gearstick. Remember to push down the upper boot as if you dont it clicks as the rubber deforms... try it first before putting the console back on.
All you need is a pozi drive screwdriver and a 10 mm spanner, plus some oil and an hour spare.
Also changed the cup on the bottom of the gearstick as it was only a few quid.
Gearlever feels nice and steady now, less noise and heat behind the leather gaiter. Also, the gaiter doesnt balloon with air as you drive along.
Do both boots, as they are both likely to have split. Very easy job, bottom gator went on easily with a dolop of oil. Cut the old one off with a knife and disgard it, you dont need it again.
