If MX5 parts are to be believed, I cannot see how nobody has written a review on this item yet, as they claim to have sold hundreds.
At some £40 cheaper than the Mazda system, it has to be a worthwhile proposition.
The first thing that grabs your attention is the sheer size of the thing! It is almost the size of a double bed quilt. Being new to the MX5 community, the size was totally unexpected. Seing a roof in a showroom does not give the correct scale and it is only when opened out in a 16 x 8 feet garage that it comes home how large an item the roof is, hence the need for some effective storage.
I digress, the bag itself is a well made piece of kit. Tough material and some padding should help to protect the roof. The liner is a softish material with no pile, I think that is better as it will stop grit from gathering and potential scratches from appearing.
<<My main concerns having made the decision to purchase, is the fact that the whole package hangs on no more than two very large (and strong!) cup hooks. Add to that the weight is at the bottom - glass window - and thus resting on the roof clips.>> see below
The weight of the roof is spread across the bottom of the bag, along the strongest part of the roof. This ensures that the roof will not distort in storage. We have had our own roof in one of these for over two years, we regularly check that it has not distorted, and we have had no problems at all.
