Well as Steve Thomas said in his review, be prepared for a bit of a shock. I elected to wire up the gear knob according to the instructions so that it would come on with the lights and be controlled by the dimmer control. REmoval of the centre console has been well documented in other articles, however the instructions to connect into the wiring loom did cause problems. First point, remember to note or set and note the code number for the audio unit. On removing the audio unit disconnect the a) aerial, b) small white connector , c) the grey connector that plugs into the heater control unit and d) the large white connector that plugs into the rear of the audio unit, this is the connector we will be concerned with. The instructions show a gray / red wire and a red / blue wire coming out of the connector. Those colurs of wires bore no resemblance to those coming out of the connector in the positions shown, however I did find the appropriate coloured wires and connected the gear knob up accordingly, due to time constraints I did not test this, big mistake!!!! It did not work. I contacted Andy at MX5parts.co.uk who kindly emailed me a pdf which kinda exploded the view of the plug and wiring colours. I will post more detail on the forum, however suffice to say although the connectors 1G and 1E showed Gray/red and REd/blue wires respectively my car wiring loom showed Gray/Blue and Orange wires coming from connectors 1G and 1E respectively. I tested with a meter this time and found that the Orange was the live wire. I repaired my earlier foray into the wiring loom and made the new connections, tested it and it worked. Put all the plugs back into the audio unit and re-installed everything. Looks really good at night, however install could have been easier if my car conformed to the wiring spec in the instructions, dunno if it is the car or the instructions, so only getting 4 stars but great accessory Rating: 4 of 5 Stars!
