I bought this hood as an upgrade to my Mk1 with it's zip out plastic window. I obtained a used Mk2 frame from ebay and the result is excellent.
I believe it is possible to adapt this hood onto the standard Mk1 frame but my advice would be to get the proper frame.
The quality of fit is superb - all the pre-prepared holes lined perfectly up with the frame and no need for glue on the header rail as there is a pre-sewn pocket with re-inforced moulding so it just slips on! - fantastic!
Easy to close first time and roof is as tight as a drum.
Fitted myself over a weekend no real difficulties. As long as you have some basic tools and a pop rivet gun it is not that difficult!
No instructions are provided but if you do a google search for "mx5 hood fitting dvd" you will find a uk based supplier that has filmed the whole process for about a fiver!
So I recommend buying the hood from mx5 parts and going to the competition for the instructional dvd.
Talking to other owners who have fitted hoods most of the problems they have encountered were with Non-Mazda hoods. I'm not knocking other suppliers, many of them offer excellent products but you can't beat the "real deal" for ease of fitting and quality of finish.
Moving from vinyl and plastic (in my case) to mohair and glass has transformed the look of the car and no more un-zipping before dropping the roof!
