Gearlever Lower Shift Boot

Genuine Mazda part and easy to fit, usual great MX5 parts deliver. I took my time put probably was less than an hour including removing the console. I also replaced to upper boot and nylon base cup at the same time. Procedure was: Remove console, 5 screws, remember to separate the wiring connectors for windows etc. Undo screws on upper boot, then lift and undo screws on lower boot. All 10mm. Lift out gearstick, watch for oil drips. Remove upper boot - mine was wrecked so I cut off the nylon ring with wire cutters. Then remove the lower boot upward. Strip off all the old rubber bellows then the metal basepalte will lift over the step in the shaft - NO sawing required - it will pass over whole, as the new one goes back on that way. Suck out the old oil with a turkey baster as mentioned elsewhere, refill with 75-90 gear oil and reassemble. My oil was like soup - lots of ally particles :-(.
Also fitted a new leather gaiter to complete the job - this took a good while longer.
