I needed a new mirror as my original was developing black spots where the reflective backing had degraded. This is clearly not cheap but when it arrived and I looked it over it is clearly a more complex component than you’d first imagine.
Fitting was a piece of cake. You can use a hairdryer to warm the plastic cover which hides the retaining screws. This makes it more pliable and much easier to remove (using a rag-covered flathead screwdriver).
For the price, some may want to pay a little extra and source a chrome aftermarket piece, but that was not for me. However I wonder if MX5 parts could obtain solely the mirror glass for replacement?
On balance this is an expensive but beautifully manufactured original Mazda part (and still cheaper than list price). I am reminded every time I look up that it was worth buying, and because of this it gets a 5.
It goes without saying that delivery was spot on.
