The electric aerial stopped working on my 11 year old Mk2, (the ONLY thing that has actually ever gone wrong with the car..)
The masts are replaceable but it was the motor that had gone, they are not cheap!
I scooted around on ebay to find a used one but even they are silly money, I never did like the huge chrome 1970's electric aerial
anyway so settled on this part as a replacement.
I had to go to a local MX5 breaker (who I'm probably not allowed to mention) to buy a non-electric 'base' for £10. This easily bolts inside the
car with one 10mm nut (earth) and the mounting at the top which needed gentle persuasion with some circlip pliers (watch that paint!)
Once the new base was installed it was a matter of minutes before this aerial was screwed in and working. Reception is better than before
and it looks a lot better than the huge chrome aerial. I would have liked the design to be slimmer, such as the latest MK3 aerials and the
Honda S2000, but this is being picky.
Something nobody has mentioned in these reviews is that top down at 70-80mph this aerial is MUCH quieter (at generating wind noise) than
the standard aerial, in fact it cannot be heard.
Excellent product, easy to fit and works perfectly, excellent delivery too (as always). 5 Stars.
