An excellent product if not expensive but well worth the money just for the sound it makes under acceleration! It took an hour to fit on my MX-5 1.8 Sport provided you have the tools needed. I have noticed a definite improvement in throttle responsiveness and a small horsepower gain, but don't go expecting the Typhoon Intake system to dramatically increase the performance.
K & N have really done a fine job with this Mk2.5 system and the quality is superb. The best feature is by far the noise it makes as soon as you hit 3000 rpm onwards the sound it awesome and had me grinning like a Cheshire cat! At low speeds and when idle the engine sounds as normal except for a cool hissing sound from the FilterCharger as it sucks air in. In other words it doesn't sound like boy racer's crappy Vauxhall Corsa with a nasty tinny big bore exhaust and more like a true sports car.
The stock Mazda Air Box is easy enough to remove but I did have to use several electrical plastic clips to secure the sensor wires on a nearby hose to avoid becoming too hot near the engine. My Tip - If you have a strut brace like on the Sport model you may need to remove it in order to gain access to one of the stock air box's bolts during instillation. Just make sure you put the strut brace back on the right way round otherwise you won't be able to close the bonnet correctly, as I discovered! Dooooh!
Anyway, if you purchase this system I doubt you'll be disappointed.
