Bought this part after months of consideration , firstly excellent service from
Mx 5parts ordered at 2pm on Mon arrived 2pm Tue, first impression of the part
Is one of quality , well engineered and looks great even in the box !!!
Installation was just as easy as the other reviews highlight, I was alarmed at the amount of space I was creating in the engine bay with the removal of the old air box But it does help with the air circulation in the engine bay. Instructions were first class and easy to follow, even for a beginner like myself, and the whole job was done and dusted in 50 minutes. Started up the car and it sounded just like it was with only the slightest hissing noise from the K&N filter, got in and took it for a test drive and the first thing that is obvious is the car is far more responsive in acceleration but cant really say if it makes the top speed any greater. At first the sound from the engine was a bit disappointing nothing in 1st and 2nd and only a slight growl at half throttle in third, but like anything new you do have to get used to it and accelerating a bit harder gives you a lovely classic Roar which the car should have had from the production line, don’t know about the fuel ratio any better/worse its too soon to say its just a bit unfortunate that you have to pay over £200 for something that should be standard on the car.
What you wont sound like is a delivery boy with his jazzed up Corsa and big bore exhaust what you will sound like is what the MX5 is, a classic sports car. To sum up K&N have manufactured a great replacement for the air box which is easy to install therefore no garage bills it looks as good as it performs and is probably just about worth the money when you consider its lifetime guarantee, over the next few years I am sure it will repay its cost and more so if you are swaying
about buying one ……don’t …buy it….. and enjoy
