Took me a while to install but I'm very pleased. Other reviewers commented on the loudness of the tick. Sure you can hear it when the engine's off, there's no music and no passing traffic, but when does that happen!
I took the light + looping back from the ashtray light using a pin connector, and the permantent +/- from the redundant mirror adjustment loom in my '96 using female spades. Pretty easy really. I drilled/cut my own hole in the black facia, which was probably the hardest thing, but the result was fine.
Like Emma's comments before I didn't want the orange/white light either. The bulb is held in place by a tight gromit. This can be prised out and the bulb surgically removed - it's melted in. I then used a high power green LED with a 470 ohm resistor to bring 14v down to the required four. As LEDs are very directional I aimed the LED up at the reflective strip inside the clock above the hole which is OK. You could try defracting the light some other way, ie. roughing up the LED. I've forwarded a photo to Jochen.
I would have given 5/5 if it came with MX-5 green as standard!
