Hi, Just thought I'd give you an update, After a few weekends work the new engine is in the mx5 (and running from today) if anyone is going to replace an engine in one of these, (for any reason, Crankshaft shafted, or upgrading to a 1.8) replace your cambelt AFTER you have put the new engine in, that way you can remove the head from the new engine before fitting into the engine bay, this gives you so much more room to fix the engine to the gearbox bell housing, it will save you hours of messing about turning bolts 1/16th of a turn at a time. (also when removing the old engine take the head off (with inlet manifold etc) it's far easier to do without everything in the way) Make sure that you have all the gaskets etc before you start, If you get held up because you don't have an exhaust manifold gasket you will be pretty fed up with having to go to the local dealers to get one before it gets too dark to do any more work. I bought a load of stuff from mx5parts before I started this task, and now have lots of gaskets left to sell on ebay. It's much better to have more than enough bits to do a job than not enough. If anyone wants to contact me and ask questions about the engine swap then feel free to email me at dar@flowfood.co.uk Also if you are doing an engine swap and havent changed your exhaust manifold to a stainless 4-2-1 then do this at the same time, on a 12 year old car the bracket that holds the original manifold to the bellhousing will be rotten and you'll have to smash it to bits to get it off, with a new stainless manifold you don't need the bracket. (not really a review of the cam timing kit, other than to say that after buying 2 in 10K miles (600 of those on a racetrack in Germany) the service I had from mx5parts is fantastic, when I placed my order (which was for over £200 worth of service items) I was phoned back to say a gasket wasn't in stock and had the option of sourcing one elseware/waiting for it to be in stock/order a gasket set which included the item, (I chose the gasket set) most places would have either sent my order short or waited for the whole order to be in stock before despatch. A+++ service. A+++ staff If you've never used mx5parts before then give them a try, you won't be disapointed. Rating: 5 of 5 Stars! [5 of 5 Stars!]
