This was the first mod I made to my newly-acquired MX-5, so I wasn't at all familiar with how the car's interior is put together. Consequently the job took a little longer than anticipated. However, removal of the old unit with cup-holders was pretty straightforward once I had read the instructions a few times. The wiring was a bit fiddly, but once I had worked out how the spliced-in connectors worked it all slotted into place. I now have a very usable storage area which holds a pack of paper tissues, mobile phone charger, pen, notebook, travel sweets and other "essentials".
The finish matches the rest of the interior trim (although if I was being very, very picky I would observe that the moulded ribs on the top are not quite as sharply defined as the original lid). The magnetic closure works at least as well as the OE catch, but with no moving parts to break or wear out.
Overall a worthwhile improvement on the OE "cup holders" arrangement - especially when there are two perfectly usable beverage holders in the doors anyway!
