The usual great, next day delivery from MX5Parts. A fairly easy job to do. On my MK2, I put the front of the car up on axle stands and removed the front offside wheel. I also removed the 4 bolt cover panel from under the gearbox as this allows easier access to the bottom bolt of the slave cylinder.

A couple of tips. Crack off but dont yet remove the two 12mm bolts that hold the old unit in position. I used a 12mm ring racket spanner for the bottom bolt and a 12mm socket on the end of a long extension for the top bolt. Be careful with the top bolt, it is at a very slight angle so make sure that your socket is correctly seated on it. Remove the 10mm fluid pipe union completely while the old unit is still in position. Watch out for the hydraulic oil coming out. If you have a pipe clamp, you could clamp the hydraulic hose that passes over the bell housing. I didnt have one so I used cling film over the top of the resorvoir and then put the cap on to stop air from getting in. I also used a syringe to suck out most of the old oil from the resorvoir and then filled it up with fresh oil.

I then undid the two 12mm bolts and removed the old unit. Put a dab of grease on the piston then fit the rod and boot. Also put a dab of grease on the clutch lever end of the rod too. I then fitted the fluid pipe to the new unit before bolting it into position. This is a bit tricky and I had to do it one handed but it ensures you dont cross thread the pipe union. You will need to compress the rod into the cylinder to line up the mounting bolts. Tighten it all up. I gravity bled mine initially by loosening the bleed nipple. I used a one man bleed kit. Then with the bleed nipple cracked open I pumped the clutch peddle a number of times. I then topped up the resorvoir and repeated that a couple more times so the nice fresh fluid completely filled the system. Finally, tighten the bleed nipple, check for correct operation of the clutch and feel happy that you have a nice smooth clutch operation. Rating: 5 of 5 Stars! [5 of 5 Stars!]
