I followed Jon Lawes review for excellent hints on getting access to the slave cylinder. However, this job was a complete pain to do. The 2 x 12mm bolts holding the slave cylinder in place simply would not release. It took several days of soaking with penetrating fluid for me to get them to release.
Once released it's a fairly easy to replace the unit. I also replaced all the clutch fluid as well.
The clutch operation is now much improved.
