The removal of both the upper and lower ball joints requires a ball joint splitter. I followed the advice given in the manual, which at first did not give me confidence. However, I bought a Draper ball joint seperator (stock number 13914) for £14.99 from my local motor factors.
It was a tight fit, but by reversing the castellated nut and screwing it back onto the ball joint thread so the nut lower face was flush with the stud helped make a hard job easy. The separator was able (just) to grip onto the nut and do it's stuff. The Draper tool also fits (easily) the other ball joints.
Note the ball joint is not supplied with the castellated nut, which has a non standard thread. This nut must be purchased from a main dealer (cost about £1.50).
Also refer to my comments regarding refurbishing the ball joint with new rubbers (see rubber section)- don't bother, just fit a new unit.
