My 99 Mk2 1.8 started a worrying miss fire problem just over a week ago, the 2 cylinder rumbling and raw fuel smell was very worrying. After prolonged chats with my dealer service department (who couldn't diagnose the problem, as it would never act up when they had it), we decided to try new plugs and leads.
Now, Mazda original ignition leads are £70 from a mark dealer, these are £50 and reputedly better, so after reading the reviews online I decided to buy these and have my local dealer fit them (in conjunction with a new set of long reach plugs, also bought here)
Ordered at 11am on the Tuesday, delivered in the post at 10am on the Weds! Thank you MX5 Parts! And impressive looking they are too! My dealer's service guys were impressed too, they've been looking for cheaper and better leads than the original mazdas and might just be sourcing Magnecor themselves.
Now, to the nitty gritty. WOW!
Smoother revs, smoother acceleration, keener acceleration, smoother idling, more power of the mark from a cold start and slightly faster climbing the revs too. Not much of a power increase but it feels like a whole new engine!
Trouble is, it hasn't cured the missfire, so, it's the bloody coil pack. No way am I paying Mazda £210 inc vat when I can get one here for £140, just hafta wait 4 weeks and avoid hot starts.
Thank you MX5 parts and special mention to my dealers who ignored chances to bill me for having my car in and spending time on it, only charged me for the initial diagnostic where they cleaned and checked my old leads and plugs, then a charge for fitting the new ones, they had my car in another time, over night, to try and get to the bottom of the problem and didn't bill me. Thank you Border Cars Carlisle.
