Replacing the cables is pretty straightforward, but set aside a good few hours to do it if you're not familiar with this sort of job, which I wasn't. The only problem I had was caused by an error in the otherwise excellent Veloce MX-5 Enthusiast's Workshop Manual. The text says that the up (shorter) cable should be fitted onto the top of the capstan, when in fact it should be fitted to the bottom. The accompanying picture 7/15a on page 10.14 confirms this, but it took me a while to work this out. This may not be true for the left hand door - I was replacing the mechanism on a right hand (driver's) door - but given that the manual's text is based on the stripdown of a right hand door it may well be wrong for the left, too. The best advice is to be more careful than I was when dimantling the capstan mechanism, and check how it all goes together. Rating: 5 of 5 Stars! [5 of 5 Stars!]
