Exhaust upgrades are one of our most popular products across all generations of MX5 and it was only the other month we looked at the various options available for Mk3s. Now We've got something for you Mk4 owners out there, as fitted to our very own demo car.
The kit in question is the Stainless Steel Centre-Exit system for the Mk4 convertible and RF. Where the standard arrangement is paired pipes on the right side of the car this combines with a diffuser style centre trim for a more symmetrical and assertive appearance that really transforms the car's looks and stance. Fitting is a little more involved than a standard backbox, given you have to replace the standard rear trim with the ABS plastic centre panel. But we achieved this easily enough using double-sided 3M tape and screws for added security. As you can see it integrates neatly with the standard bumper cut-out for a 'factory' look while, at the same time, setting your car apart as something a bit special.
Given you're only replacing the rear silencer and tail pipes it's an otherwise simple fit, with no worries about MoT emissions tests or suchlike. Most of all it just gives your Mk4 a little more attitude and the perfect soundtrack for a spirited cross country drive, without being unsociably loud or intrusive for everyday use. Pair it with some lowering springs and you've got an affordable way to transform the way your Mk4 looks, sounds and drives without messing with Mazda's original formula.
