There's a lot to be said for this time of year, not least because it marks the point when the days finally get longer, warmer and, with a bit of luck, drier! April is also the official 'opening match' of the MX-5 show scene in the UK, with the biggest and most significant meeting of all being the one thrown by the MX-5 Owners' Club. This year's Spring Rally took place at the stunning Ashton Court in Somerset, and the grade 1 listed building provided a fitting backdrop for well over 850 different Roadsters, all of them immaculately presented.
Of course the relationship between MX5parts and the MX-5 Owners' Club is a famously strong one, hence why we were in attendance at Ashton Court last weekend with an enlarged stand selling the entire MX5parts range. Not only were there enough MX5parts, IL Motorsport and official Mazda kit to keep the country's Roadster community driving for years to come, we opted to run a blanket, 10% off everything on stand, with free shipping thrown in for good measure. It ensured a constant stream of passionate individuals, many of them over the moon at the prospect of buying a set of coilovers, or a new exhaust, then having them shipped directly to their door mere days later.
It goes without saying that we're not just in the business of selling parts for MX-5s, we're genuinely passionate about them ourselves, hence the famed MX5parts demo car fleet; we brought the NA, NB and brand new ND down to Ashton Court for the day, and all 3 cars appeared to go down very well indeed. Keep your eyes peeled for new products and fitment options later in the year.
Nice as it was to contribute to the massed ranks of Roadsters in attendance, we're happy to admit that our cars ever ever so slightly eclipsed by both the sheer number and quality of Owners' Club cars there on the day. Conservative estimates place the overall turnout at over 850, with all 4 generations of car very well represented. There was also a superb mix of styles and types of modification reflecting differing areas of interest, meaning it wasn't at all uncommon to see stock, low mileage, concours level NBs sharing space with drift-ready NAs, daily driven NDs and hard working NCs. It wasn't merely a compelling mix, it was utterly heartening, further proof of the size and rude health of the UK's MX-5 scene.
The Spring Rally has always prided itself on its ability to put on a show for all the family, and this year it was no different. The Somerset location was reflected in the type of entertainment on offer, with music from the Mangled Wurzels, a traditional skittle alley and a stall for the award winning Castle Combe brewery.
Put simply, the day was a massive success and bodes very well for the remainder of the 2017 MX-5 shows and gatherings, many of which we will also be attending. Everyone at MX5parts would like to thanks the MX-5 Owners Club for inviting us along to Ashton Court and for making the event such a massive success.
